Reading the result
Look at accuracy first. A wrong answer is a fact that is not yet known, and no amount of speed practice fixes it — drill that table on its own instead.
Once the answers are right, look at the times. A fact answered in under three seconds is recalled; one that takes eight is being worked out. Both are “correct”, but only the first will hold up under a timed check or in longer written maths.

▸How long does the test take?
Usually two to three minutes. There are 20 questions and no per-question time limit, but your total time and your time on each question are both recorded.
▸Which tables does it cover?
All of them from 2 to 12, drawn at random and asked in both directions — you will see both 7 × 8 and 8 × 7.
▸What counts as a good score?
For a child who has learnt their tables, 20 out of 20 with an average under three seconds a question is a strong result. Accuracy matters more than speed first; speed comes with recall.
▸How is this different from the MTC practice?
The MTC practice mirrors the Year 4 check exactly: 25 questions with a hard six-second limit per question. This test is self-paced, so it measures what you know rather than how you cope under a timer.
